President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu today affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the nation’s treatment system and working towards the complete eradication of Tuberculosis (TB).

In a message delivered on the occasion of World TB Day, globally observed today, President Muizzu acknowledged that despite significant advancements in controlling the spread and treatment of TB, the disease continues to pose a major public health challenge at global, regional, and national levels.

The President highlighted new initiatives aimed at expediting the detection and diagnosis of TB, alongside efforts to enhance care for vulnerable populations. He provided assurance that his administration is dedicated to building a future free from the disease.

President Muizzu expressed pride in the Maldives being recognized as a low TB burden country, stating that the nation will remain at the forefront of global efforts to eliminate the disease. He further noted that the launch of crucial foundational work, designed to accelerate TB eradication efforts within the Maldives, is slated for this year.

World TB Day is celebrated annually on March 24th. This year’s theme is: “Yes! We Can End TB: Led by Countries, Powered by People.”
