Male’, Maldives – President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed concern over the deteriorating conditions of Rasfannu and Sultan Park, assuring the public that the government will take special efforts to restore their beauty and vibrancy.

In a post on X, the President highlighted the current state of these popular recreational spots, emphasizing their importance as sources of joy for the residents of Male’. He assured that the government would work diligently to revitalize both locations.

Notably, these areas were originally developed when President Muizzu served as the Housing Minister. However, both Rasfannu and Sultan Park have suffered neglect over time, with visible damage particularly in the Tsunami Monument area, where a significant portion has collapsed.

The long-pending repair work for these places has been delayed due to disagreements between the Male’ City Council and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). According to the City Council, maintaining parks and squares falls under its jurisdiction, but MTCC was entrusted with repairing Rasfannu. In return, the kiosk operating in the area was assigned to MTCC as compensation for the repair work.

The Male’ City Council has stated that rather than simple repairs, extensive infrastructure work is needed at the site. However, they currently lack the necessary budget to undertake such efforts. Meanwhile, MTCC has claimed that they had sought permission from the City Council to repair the huts, barbecue area, and fishing zone, which have suffered significant damage, but had not received approval.

As a result of these unresolved issues, repair efforts have been stalled, leaving Rasfannu and Sultan Park in a deteriorated state.

These two locations remain highly frequented by families during weekends, making their restoration a priority for both the government and the public.
