Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Princess Astrid of Belgium on Thursday, welcoming her leadership of a 300-member economic mission to India aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and boosting trade and investment between the two nations.

The high-level delegation, comprising business leaders, entrepreneurs, and government officials, is one of the largest economic missions Belgium has ever sent to India. The visit underscores the growing importance of India as a key partner for Belgium and the European Union in the global economy.

During the talks, PM Modi expressed his appreciation for Princess Astrid’s efforts to enhance economic cooperation and highlighted the potential for collaboration in sectors such as renewable energy, technology, pharmaceuticals, and infrastructure. “India and Belgium share a strong partnership rooted in shared democratic values and mutual respect,” PM Modi said. “This economic mission is a testament to the vibrant ties between our nations and the immense opportunities for growth and innovation.”

Princess Astrid, representing King Philippe of Belgium, emphasized the importance of India as a strategic partner and expressed her country’s commitment to deepening economic and cultural exchanges. “Belgium is keen to explore new avenues of collaboration with India, particularly in green energy and digital transformation,” she said.

The visit also included the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between Indian and Belgian companies, paving the way for increased investment and joint ventures. Both sides agreed to work closely to address global challenges such as climate change and sustainable development.

The economic mission comes at a time when India is emerging as one of the fastest-growing major economies, attracting significant interest from global investors. Belgium, known for its strategic location in Europe and advanced industrial base, is looking to leverage India’s vast market and skilled workforce.

As the two nations celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, the visit of Princess Astrid and the economic delegation marks a new chapter in India-Belgium ties, with a focus on fostering innovation, creating jobs, and driving economic growth.
