New Delhi [India], August 15 (ANI): In a landmark Independence Day address from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed that domestically manufactured semiconductor chips will hit the market by the end of 2025, signaling a major leap in India’s technological self-reliance.

“To the youth of India and the global community recognizing our tech prowess, I proudly announce that Made-in-India chips will debut in the market by year-end,” PM Modi declared, emphasizing the government’s mission to establish India as a semiconductor powerhouse.

Reflecting on decades of missed opportunities, the Prime Minister noted that semiconductor development in India was conceived 50-60 years ago but languished due to bureaucratic delays. “While other nations advanced, we lost precious time. Now, we’re breaking free from that inertia,” he stated, highlighting the approval of four new semiconductor units under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) with investments totaling Rs 4,600 crore.

These facilities, slated for Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Punjab, are part of a broader strategy to position India as a global semiconductor hub amid shifting supply chains. PM Modi also underscored the critical minerals sector, launching the National Critical Minerals Mission (NCMM) with a Rs 16,300 crore budget to secure resources vital for energy, defense, and technology.

Furthering this vision, the government has allocated Rs 1,345 crore to boost rare earth magnet production, supporting end-to-end processing from oxides to magnets. “Self-reliance in critical minerals is non-negotiable,” PM Modi asserted, detailing exploration efforts at 1,200 sites nationwide.

The announcements align with India’s push for technological sovereignty, combining domestic mining, international partnerships, and R&D investments to reduce reliance on imports and strengthen its industrial base.
