Australian cricket legend Jason Gillespie has publicly detailed the reasons behind his exit from his role as head coach of Pakistan’s national team, citing a severe breakdown in trust with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as the primary cause.

In a candid social media response to a fan’s question, Gillespie explained that his tenure was undermined when the PCB dismissed his senior assistant coach without any prior consultation or communication with him. “As Head Coach, I found this situation completely unacceptable,” he stated, adding that a series of other issues left him feeling “completely humiliated.”

Gillespie’s appointment in April 2024 to lead the Test side, and later the white-ball teams on an interim basis, was cut short by December after a period marked by friction and poor communication. Despite guiding Pakistan to a notable ODI series victory in Australia, he chose to resign, revealing that internal politics and a lack of unity within the setup heavily influenced his decision.

The experience has had a lasting impact, with Gillespie admitting it has diminished his interest in full-time coaching roles. He also didn’t hold back in his criticism of Aqib Javed, the interim coach who succeeded him, bluntly labeling him “a clown” and accusing him of undermining his efforts during his time in charge.
