India’s Ambassador to Myanmar, Vinay Kumar, held high-level discussions with Myanmar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, U Than Swe, on the progress of ‘Operation Brahma’—a bilateral initiative aimed at enhancing security and economic cooperation along the Indo-Myanmar border.

Key Highlights of the Meeting:

  • Border Security & Stability: Both sides reviewed joint efforts to curb cross-border insurgent activities and trafficking, emphasizing coordinated patrols and intelligence-sharing mechanisms.
  • Infrastructure & Connectivity: Progress on India-funded projects, including the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project and the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway, was assessed for timely completion.
  • Trade & Humanitarian Aid: Discussions included boosting bilateral trade under the ASEAN-India FTA and India’s continued support for Myanmar’s humanitarian and developmental needs.

Ambassador Kumar reiterated India’s commitment to a stable and prosperous Myanmar, while Myanmar’s leadership appreciated India’s non-interference and constructive engagement.

The talks signal a reinforcement of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ and ‘Act East’ policies amid regional geopolitical shifts.
