In a significant display of international cooperation, the Indian Coast Guard Ship Sachet, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, has docked at Maputo Port in Mozambique as part of its ongoing African deployment. The arrival marks a pivotal moment in strengthening maritime ties between the two nations.

The vessel carries 20 metric tonnes of vital Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief supplies, including essential medical provisions, which will be formally handed over to Mozambican authorities. This initiative underscores India’s steadfast commitment to bolstering Mozambique’s public health infrastructure and disaster response capabilities.

Beyond humanitarian efforts, the visit features extensive professional exchanges between the ship’s crew and Mozambican maritime agencies. These collaborative sessions will focus on critical areas including Marine Pollution Response, Maritime Search and Rescue operations, and Maritime Law Enforcement protocols.

The engagement program includes specialized onboard training for Visit, Board, Search and Seizure operations, pollution response drills, and joint cultural and sporting events designed to enhance operational coordination and foster mutual understanding between the maritime forces.

Adding a community dimension to the mission, crew members will join National Cadet Corps cadets and Assam Rifles personnel in environmental initiatives such as beach clean-ups and marine awareness campaigns with local youth groups. These activities align with India’s nationwide ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’ campaign, which aims to combat marine pollution and promote environmental consciousness among coastal communities.
