Authorities in the Maldives have apprehended two individuals in Hulhumalé Phase 1 on suspicion of illegal alcohol trade. The arrests were made during a routine patrol conducted by police officers targeting drug trafficking and illicit sales in the area.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the suspects have been identified as 32-year-old Mohamed Mubarik and 23-year-old Hassan Qasim, both originally from Lh. Naifaru. The operation took place on the night of August 21, near the Kanneli Jetty area. Police reports indicate that the individuals exhibited suspicious behavior upon noticing patrolling officers, prompting a search of their belongings and the surrounding vicinity.
The search resulted in the discovery and seizure of 24 cans of alcohol. Following their arrest, the suspects were presented before the court to determine their remand status. The court ordered Mohamed Mubarik to be held in custody for 15 days, while Hassan Qasim received a five-day remand period. The investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
