A 40-year-old male has been taken into custody in Sh. Milandhoo on suspicion of smuggling narcotics into the island. The Maldives Police Service identified the suspect as Hassan Fayaz, a resident of Milandhoo.

The arrest was the result of an intelligence-led operation conducted on April 22. Authorities received reports that illicit substances were being transported from Kulhudhuffushi to Milandhoo. Following these leads, police intercepted Fayaz at the Milandhoo harbor area.

Upon a search of the suspect, officers discovered a paper packet containing what is believed to be illegal drugs. Following his arrest, Fayaz was presented before the court, which ordered him to be remanded in custody for a period of seven days. The investigation into the matter remains ongoing as police continue to probe the trafficking route.
