The Maldives Police Service has arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with a burglary at a local shop in Lh. Hinnavaru. The arrest followed a report filed on the morning of August 16, 2026, regarding a theft that occurred during the late hours of the previous night.

According to authorities, the investigation involved a detailed review of CCTV footage from the shop and neighboring residences. This analysis enabled officers to identify the suspect, identified as Rifnaz Moosa of Tharipiyajahaage, Lh. Hinnavaru. Upon obtaining a court order, police conducted a search of his residence.

During the search, officers recovered stolen property, including five mobile phones and six cartons of cigarettes, alongside other miscellaneous items believed to have been taken from the establishment. Following his apprehension, the suspect was presented before the court, which ordered him to be remanded in custody for a period of 15 days as the investigation continues.
