The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into a new case of reckless driving on the Sinamale Bridge after footage of the incident began circulating on social media. The video, which has drawn widespread public concern, depicts a young man operating a motorcycle dangerously by taking both hands off the handlebars and placing both legs on one side of the vehicle while in motion.
This latest incident follows a series of similar reports of dangerous behavior on the bridge. In July, authorities took decisive action against three individuals involved in similar reckless acts, which included lying flat on moving motorcycles and speeding with obstructed views. In those cases, the motorcycles were impounded for a period of 30 days and the offenders were issued heavy fines.
A spokesperson for the police confirmed that the department is aware of the viral video and that an active investigation is currently underway to identify the individual. However, no further details regarding the suspect have been released at this time.
The Sinamale Bridge has seen a significant increase in road accidents recently. Authorities continue to urge the public to prioritize road safety and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent life-threatening incidents on the country’s busiest thoroughfare.
