The Maldives Police Service has launched a formal criminal investigation into a fatal traffic accident that occurred in Hithadhoo, Addu City, on Sunday night. The collision between two motorcycles resulted in the death of 48-year-old Rameez Abdullah, a resident of Hithadhoo.
Rameez passed away while undergoing treatment at ADK Hospital for life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash. According to details shared by his family on social media, the victim suffered a severe skull fracture and brain hemorrhage. Despite undergoing emergency surgery and receiving intensive care, he succumbed to his injuries.
The individual operating the second motorcycle involved in the collision is currently receiving medical care at Addu Equatorial Hospital. Police authorities confirmed that while the driver possessed a valid license at the time of the incident, the case is being treated as a serious criminal matter due to the circumstances of the collision.
In a separate incident on the same night, police are investigating another accident where a motorcycle struck a pedestrian on a zebra crossing. The victim of that incident is currently hospitalized at IGMH, and the driver involved also held a valid license. Investigations into both cases remain ongoing as authorities address rising concerns over road safety.
