Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has announced Moscow’s anticipation for a state visit from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2026, framing the trip as a testament to the enduring and ‘time-tested’ nature of the bilateral relationship. Speaking at a diplomatic forum on Monday, Lavrov described the ties between the two nations as an exemplary model of international cooperation based on sovereign equality and mutual trust.

This future summit follows the significant diplomatic progress made during President Vladimir Putin’s trip to New Delhi in late 2025. That visit reinforced the strategic synchronization between the two world powers and saw the signing of several pivotal policy frameworks designed to guide their long-term cooperation.

The economic dimension of the partnership remains a primary focus, with trade figures reaching approximately $60 billion in 2025. Both nations are currently working toward a revised target of $100 billion by 2030.
