The Maradhoo Magistrate Court has issued a landmark ruling ordering the closure of a private residence in Addu City for operating as an illegal drug cafe. The order, which came into effect yesterday, mandates that the property remain sealed for a duration of 90 days.

This judicial action, taken under the Drugs Act, represents the first time the Maradhoo Magistrate Court has exercised its authority to shut down premises used for narcotics consumption. The ruling signifies an escalation in local legal efforts to combat substance abuse infrastructure.

The Maldives Police Service has warned that entering the property without authorization during the closure period is a criminal offense. Authorities emphasized that individuals found trespassing or causing damage to the sealed premises will face immediate legal prosecution.

Police officials reaffirmed their commitment to utilizing the powers granted under the Drugs Act to curb drug-related crimes. They confirmed that operations are ongoing to identify and shut down additional establishments suspected of facilitating the trade and consumption of illicit substances across the region.
