A 41-year-old man has been taken into police custody following an attempt to steal components from outdoor air conditioning units. The suspect was apprehended while attempting to flee with the equipment.
According to a remand order issued by the Criminal Court today, the suspect has been identified as Mohamed Shiuneez, a resident of Yellowhouse in S. Feydhoo. The court has ordered that Shiuneez be detained for a period of seven days, citing the potential threat to public safety should he be released at this stage of the investigation.
Court records indicate that Shiuneez has a prior history of arrests and a criminal record. Notably, he was previously arrested during the most recent month of Ramadan for violating the fast by eating in public during daylight hours.
Theft of outdoor air conditioning units is considered relatively uncommon due to their significant weight and their typical installation on elevated balconies. However, authorities noted that the suspect targeted these specific components before being intercepted.
