Shaviyani Atoll, Bilehfahi – The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has officially commenced land reclamation efforts for the new airport project in Bilehfahi, Shaviyani Atoll. This marks a significant step forward in enhancing regional air connectivity and infrastructure within the Maldives.

MACL, the state-owned enterprise responsible for managing and operating airports across the Maldives, has been tasked with the crucial land reclamation phase of the Bilehfahi Airport development. The project aims to reclaim approximately 36 hectares of land, with an estimated completion timeline of eight months for this specific phase.

The comprehensive development plan for Bilehfahi Airport includes the construction of a 1500-meter long runway, alongside various passenger facilities designed to ensure comfort and convenience. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has previously assured that the Bilehfahi Airport project will be completed and opened to the public within 30 months from its inception.

This initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda to expand and improve air travel services throughout the archipelago. Beyond upgrading existing domestic airports, the administration has unveiled plans to establish 15 new airports across the nation. Work has already begun on several of these ambitious projects. The Bilehfahi Airport is identified as a key component of this strategic expansion, poised to bring substantial long-term benefits to the Maldives’ development and accessibility.
