President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the current momentum of the Thilamalé Bridge project demonstrates his administration’s high priority on expediting national infrastructure development. Speaking to the press following a site inspection of the bridge progress today, the President highlighted the shift in pace since the beginning of his term.

During the visit, President Muizzu expressed appreciation for the Indian government’s commitment to the project, noting that their collaboration has been instrumental in the project’s recent progress. He emphasized that the bridge is a cornerstone for the long-term development of the Greater Malé Region and will bring significant socio-economic benefits.

The President further noted that the drive for efficiency is being applied across all major state projects. He cited the accelerated works on the new terminal at Velana International Airport and the redevelopment of Hanimaadhoo International Airport as key examples of this policy. According to the President, the bridge project was significantly behind schedule when he took office, effectively requiring a restart to meet current targets.

President Muizzu concluded by stating that the government aims to complete major phases of the bridge project within the next year, reinforcing the administration’s goal of delivering critical infrastructure to the public without further delay.
