President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu marked a significant milestone today by walking from Malé to Villimalé across the newly connected segments of the Thilamalé Bridge. The trek followed a detailed inspection of the ongoing construction progress on the Greater Malé Connectivity Project.

Accompanying the President during the inspection were the Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development, Dr. Abdulla Muthalib, and senior executives from Afcons Infrastructure, the Indian firm contracted for the project. The delegation reviewed the structural developments that recently linked the capital city with the island of Villimalé.

While the project was initially launched under the previous administration, President Muizzu has previously noted that progress was considerably stalled, requiring his government to effectively restart the momentum. He expressed satisfaction with the current pace, reaffirming that the bridge is on track for completion within the next year.

The Thilamalé Bridge project aims to link Malé, Villimalé, and Gulhifalhu, serving as a critical infrastructure backbone for the Maldives’ central region.
