Minister of Education Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has provided firm assurances that educational activities at the Gaafu Alifu Atoll Education Centre will continue without interruption, following a severe fire incident that caused significant damage to the facility late last night.

The fire, which broke out at approximately 12:30 AM, was finally extinguished after 2:00 AM. The blaze resulted in the total destruction of a block housing the primary teachers’ staff room, a printing room, and a classroom. Minister Shafeeu described the loss of the block as a profound setback for both the school and the national education sector.

Despite the damage, the Minister emphasized that swift measures are being taken to return the school to normalcy. The government has committed to delivering essential furniture, including desks and chairs, as well as computer systems and printing machinery, before the commencement of classes next week.

Emergency recovery efforts are currently underway to ensure that the environment remains conducive for learning while the destroyed infrastructure is addressed.
