A catastrophic fire that originated on a fuel boat in the harbor of F. Feeali has resulted in the total destruction of an ice plant and three additional vessels. The blaze, which broke out on the morning of April 9, 2026, quickly escalated and spread to neighboring infrastructure and vessels.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the initial report of the fire was received at approximately 09:15. In addition to the ice plant and the boats, authorities confirmed that two dinghies sustained varying degrees of damage. The island’s fuel shed was also caught in the inferno, with flames causing significant damage to fuel dispensers and sections of the shed structure.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) deployed firefighters from the F. Nilandhoo Fire Station to combat the flames. The MNDF reported that the blaze was successfully brought under control by approximately 10:35. While the property damage is extensive, the Maldives Police Service has launched a formal investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
