An eight-year-old girl and a woman sustained injuries following a multi-vehicle accident in Fuvahmulah City on Saturday evening.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the incident occurred around 18:22 near the “Moodige” area. A car reportedly collided with a motorcycle and fled the scene, subsequently crashing into another vehicle and a palm tree further down the road.

The woman operating the motorcycle and her eight-year-old passenger were transported to Fuvahmulah Hospital for medical attention. Hospital officials informed the police that while the victims are undergoing treatment, neither sustained life-threatening injuries.

Authorities have taken a 35-year-old Maldivian male into custody in connection with the spree of accidents. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect was operating the vehicle under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the incident.

Furthermore, police revealed that the suspect allegedly hijacked the vehicle after threatening the owner and causing damage to the car prior to the collision. Both cars and the motorcycle involved sustained significant damage. The Maldives Police Service is currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
