An 18-year-old male has been taken into police custody following the discovery of over 150 cellophane packets containing suspected narcotics in Hulhumale.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the suspect has been identified as Yunus Mohamed Fayiz, a resident of Hulhumale Flat 01-1-149. The arrest occurred on August 30, 2026, during a routine patrol in Hulhumale Phase 1.

Authorities reported that Fayiz attempted to flee and conceal an object upon spotting officers near Lot 11279. Following a successful pursuit and subsequent search, police recovered 153 cellophane packets of suspected drugs. The total weight of the seized substances is estimated at 108.16 grams.

The suspect was presented before the court for a remand hearing, where he was ordered to be detained for a period of 10 days while investigations continue. The Maldives Police Service is currently conducting further inquiries into the matter.
