A 22-year-old Maldivian woman has been taken into custody for the alleged possession and trafficking of illicit narcotics. The suspect, identified as Fathimath Shaha Ibrahim of G. Nashiduvilla, Male’, was apprehended at the Hiyaa Flats in Hulhumale Phase 2.

The arrest was the result of a coordinated intelligence-led operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence. During the operation, authorities seized substances suspected to be drugs, weighing approximately 216.12 grams.

Following her arrest, the suspect was presented before the court to determine her custodial status. The presiding judge ordered her to be remanded in custody for a period of 15 days as investigations continue. The Maldives Police Service confirmed that the case is currently under active investigation.

There has been a notable increase in the involvement of Maldivian women in drug-related offenses recently. This incident follows a similar arrest made last Sunday in Naifaru, where another woman was detained on suspicion of drug trafficking.
