The Criminal Court has ordered the extension of detention for two individuals arrested last month in connection with a major narcotics seizure in the capital city.

The suspects, identified as 58-year-old Mohamed Umair of G. Moonlightview, Male’, and 38-year-old Marsha Ibrahim of Gul-alaage, L. Dhanbidhoo, were initially apprehended on June 23. Following a court hearing on the expiration of their initial remand, the presiding judge ordered Umair to be detained for an additional 30 days, while Marsha’s remand was extended by 15 days.

According to the court order, police discovered a substantial quantity of illicit substances in an apartment shared by the suspects. The seized items included 1.1 kilograms of Methylmethcathinone, 24 grams of Mephedrone, and 0.04 grams of Diamorphine. Authorities confirmed that Marsha’s mobile phone has been taken into police custody to further investigate the extent of her involvement in the trafficking operation.

The Maldives Police Service continues to investigate the case as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the distribution of illegal narcotics in the Maldives.
