Strong winds and heavy rain currently affecting the Maldives have resulted in significant damage to residential properties in Hithadhoo, Addu City. The storm, which intensified during the early hours of Sunday, caused the roofs of two houses to be completely blown off.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) identified the affected properties as ‘Hulhuduage’ and ‘Oakumliba’. Personnel from the MNDF Southern Area Command were immediately dispatched to the scene to provide emergency assistance and facilitate necessary repairs to mitigate further damage to the interiors.

Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar confirmed that while the loss of roofing led to rainwater entering the homes and damaging belongings, the affected families have not required temporary relocation. “Relevant authorities are working collaboratively to ensure the houses are repaired as quickly as possible,” the Mayor stated, noting that the situation is being closely monitored.

The Maldives Meteorological Service has cautioned that while a brief improvement in weather is expected tomorrow, gusty winds and heavy rain are likely to return on Tuesday and Wednesday. Authorities continue to advise the public, particularly seafarers, to exercise extreme caution during this period of inclement weather across the archipelago.
