State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has officially taken over the provision of essential utility services in seven islands within Meemu Atoll. The transfer, which includes electricity, water, and sewerage operations, marks a transition from the previous provider, Fenaka Corporation.

The agreement was formalized today in a signing ceremony featuring the Managing Director of STELCO, Dr. Ali Azuwar, and the Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation, Mohamed Affeef Hussain. The seven islands included in this transition are Dhiggaru, Kolhufushi, Maduvvari, Muli, Naalaafushi, Ratmandhoo, and Veyvah.

According to STELCO, this strategic shift is part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s initiative to refine and enhance the quality of public services. This follows a prior agreement signed in April, under which STELCO began integrating electricity services for 25 islands across Baa, Lhaviyani, and Meemu atolls into its portfolio.

The expansion further solidifies STELCO’s role as a primary utility provider in the Maldives. The company currently manages services across the Greater Malé region, as well as the Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaalu, and Vaavu atolls.
