Ibrahim Shujau, the Member of Parliament for the Baarah constituency, has stated that the current administration is compelled to dedicate its first two years to settling substantial debts incurred by the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) government.

Speaking at a gathering held in HA. Filladhoo to celebrate the People’s National Congress (PNC) sweep of all local council seats on the island, Shujau emphasized that stabilizing the nation’s financial system is a top priority. He noted that the primary challenge facing the current fiscal framework is the repayment of loans acquired without a strategic plan over the past five years.

Shujau further asserted that despite these inherited economic hurdles, the government is working tirelessly to ensure that essential development projects remain uninterrupted. He expressed confidence that once these financial burdens are addressed, the public will experience the full benefits and prosperity of the administration’s policies.
