The Maldives Police Service has arrested a 62-year-old man in connection with an assault investigation. The suspect has been identified as Ahmed Rasheed, a resident of Ma. Cool Oasis.

Following his arrest, the Criminal Court issued a remand order on Tuesday, authorizing his detention for a period of 15 days. While Rasheed has denied the allegations against him, the court noted that the police presented sufficient evidence to justify his continued custody during the investigative phase.

Court records further indicate that Rasheed has a prior criminal history. Notably, he was arrested last year during the month of Ramadan in relation to a narcotics-related offense.

The authorities are continuing their investigation into the assault case to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
