Voting for the second round of the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections has officially commenced across five key constituencies in the Maldives.
Polling stations opened at 8:00 AM today and are scheduled to close at 4:00 PM. According to the Elections Commission (EC), this run-off was necessitated by a tie-break situation in the initial polling phase, where multiple candidates received an equal number of votes for the allocated seats.
The second round includes voting for the Baa Atoll Donfanu seat reserved for women and the Fuvahmulah City Dadimagu constituency’s women-reserved seat. Furthermore, the election will determine the WDC President for Ha. Kelaa, alongside committee members for Hd. Neykurendhoo and L. Maavah.
The Elections Commission has confirmed that the final official results for these constituencies are expected to be announced this coming Sunday.
