President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu arrived in AA. Rasdhoo on Thursday evening to a grand reception, marking his first visit to the atolls following the ruling party’s landslide victory in the local council elections. The President was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including several cabinet ministers.

A significant number of residents gathered at the Rasdhoo harbor area to welcome the President, who spent considerable time interacting with the public. The visit follows the elections held on April 4th, which saw the People’s National Congress (PNC) secure a commanding majority across the country.

Politically, the results in North Ari Atoll signify a major shift in public sentiment. Rasdhoo, traditionally an opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) stronghold, saw the PNC win nearly all council seats, with the exception of one seat on the Women’s Development Committee. Similar historic victories were recorded in Ukulhas and Thoddoo, further consolidating the ruling party’s influence in the region.
