President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has expressed significant dissatisfaction regarding the slow pace of the Greater Male Connectivity Project, commonly known as the Thilamale Bridge. Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, the President noted that while the government has facilitated all necessary requirements for the project, progress remains unsatisfactory.

The President highlighted that a deadline extension was recently granted after a thorough review of the contractor’s request. However, he emphasized that the current speed of construction does not meet public expectations. "I am certainly not satisfied with the speed of this project," President Muizzu stated. "I do not believe any citizen would be pleased with the current pace of development."

The Thilamale Bridge, intended to link Male with Villimale, Gulhifalhu, and Thilafushi, was originally scheduled for completion this year. Under the revised timeline, Indian contractor Afcons Infrastructure now estimates the project will be finished by 2027. The project carries a total investment of $500 million, funded through a $100 million grant from the Indian government and a $400 million line of credit from India’s Exim Bank.
