President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajida Mohamed have returned to Malé on Saturday after concluding their official visit to HA. Utheemu for the National Day 2026 celebrations.

During the visit, the President presided over the official National Day function, where he conferred the National Award of Honor and the National Award of Recognition to this year’s recipients. These awards represent the highest accolades bestowed by the state upon individuals for their significant contributions to the nation.

In addition to the formal ceremonies, President Muizzu inaugurated several historically significant sites on the island, including the ‘Vaahaka Vau’ and the Bodu Thakurufaanu Memorial Gate. These landmarks serve as vital links to the Maldives’ rich cultural and historical heritage.

The President also prioritized community engagement, meeting with members of the Utheemu Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC). Furthermore, he held discussions with heads of local institutions and students to address island-level concerns and development goals. The President was accompanied on this trip by a high-level delegation, including senior cabinet ministers and government officials.
