A major power distribution cable failure in B. Kamadhoo has disrupted the island’s vibrant Eid-al-Adha festivities, leaving the entire community in darkness since late afternoon.

The outage occurred at approximately 4:30 PM today, stalling several high-profile events. Kamadhoo Council President Hassan Zareer confirmed that the disruption was caused by significant damage to a primary cable. He noted that the council is working in coordination with Fenaka Corporation to resolve the issue as a matter of urgency.

To facilitate a faster recovery, technical teams are reportedly sourcing a replacement cable from a nearby resort. Local residents have indicated that repair work is ongoing to restore electricity to the island’s grid as soon as possible.

Kamadhoo, home to a population of approximately 500, had prepared an extensive five-day program featuring traditional cultural performances and music shows. The prolonged power failure has posed significant logistical challenges, particularly for the island’s scheduled evening entertainment.
