The Maldives Police Service has launched an investigation into the potential involvement of a mother in the sexual abuse of her three-year-old child. This development follows the recent arrest of the child’s father in a residential island within the South Central Police Region.
According to authorities, the father is accused of sexually assaulting the minor and recording the illicit acts on video. While the father has already been remanded in custody for a period of 30 days, the investigation has now expanded to include the mother following various public allegations regarding her complicity.
Police officials confirmed that they are currently determining the extent of the mother’s role in the incident. Although she remains under investigation, no arrest has been made against her at this stage. The Ministry of Health, Family and Social Welfare is also engaged in the matter, conducting a parallel review to ensure the victim’s safety and welfare.
