Maldivian authorities have apprehended two Indian nationals suspected of importing over six kilograms of illicit drugs into the country. The individuals, identified as Yuthish Raj Rajan (27) and Eeshwarumurithy Shanmugam (24), were arrested last Friday.
According to the police, the Maldives Customs Service handed the two men over to law enforcement on suspicion of drug trafficking. Following their arrest, both individuals were presented before a court, which ordered their remand for 15 days as the investigation proceeds.
The police confirmed that a thorough investigation into this matter is currently underway. This incident follows a similar operation earlier this month, on March 3rd, where two other Indian nationals were arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than six kilograms of drugs into the Maldives, highlighting an ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking in the nation.
