The newly expanded and asphalted section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu in Henveiru has been officially opened to traffic, marking a significant milestone in the capital’s infrastructure development. The project aims to provide long-term relief from traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.

Managed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), the expansion was completed over a three-month period. This phase involved land reclamation to significantly widen the 700-meter stretch extending from the Henveiru Ferry Terminal to the Official Jetty. Following the completion of asphalt laying, the road is now fully accessible to the public, including the segment connecting the Official Jetty to the North Harbor.

To maintain efficient traffic flow, authorities have implemented a strict no-parking policy along the newly opened stretch. To compensate, a dedicated parking facility has been developed in front of the Bank of Maldives (BML) head office, capable of accommodating 500 motorcycles simultaneously.

The project also prioritized environmental sustainability. In collaboration with various government agencies, a comprehensive greening initiative resulted in the planting of over 3,100 trees and palms along the coastal route, stretching from the Henveiru Terminal to the North Harbor.

According to MTCC, while the road is now operational, minor finishing works will continue. These tasks include the installation of safety handrails on quay wall staircases and the placement of red safety curb stones to complete the project’s architectural and safety requirements.
