The Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure has officially contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to spearhead development projects across five additional islands. This announcement follows a series of agreements signed to bolster local infrastructure, land reclamation, and coastal protection efforts across the Maldives.

The agreements were finalized in a ceremony held today, with State Minister Ismail Hammeed representing the Ministry of Housing and MTCC’s Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Jamsheed signing on behalf of the company. These new contracts follow a previous set of projects awarded just a day prior for the islands of Ha. Kelaa, Ha. Muraidhoo, D. Bandidhoo, and B. Kihaadhoo.

Under the newly signed agreements, significant work is slated for Sh. Funadhoo, which includes a second phase of shore protection featuring 26.55 hectares of land reclamation and extensive geo-bag revetments. Similarly, K. Maafushi will see 25 hectares of land reclaimed alongside comprehensive shore protection measures including rock revetments and breakwaters.

In K. Gaafaru and Gd. Madaveli, the projects focus on harbor rehabilitation and upgrades. This includes dredging and the installation of rock boulder breakwaters to enhance maritime safety. Meanwhile, F. Dharanboodhoo will benefit from a dedicated shore protection initiative, involving the construction of a 635-meter low-crest breakwater to mitigate coastal erosion.
