The President’s Office has officially announced the establishment of separate administrative offices for Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo in Addu Atoll, following a significant structural shift in local governance. Concurrently, the Haa Dhaal Hirimaradhoo Council has been formally dissolved.

These administrative changes follow a referendum held last October, in which residents of both Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo voted to separate from the Addu City Council jurisdiction. In light of this, the government has revised the organizational framework of the Addu City Council to accommodate the newly independent administrative entities.

In Haa Dhaal Atoll, the government has commenced the relocation of Hirimaradhoo residents to Hanimaadhoo. This relocation process has led to the dissolution of the Hirimaradhoo Council. Furthermore, the administration has confirmed that all atoll-level councils and their administrative offices nationwide have now been abolished.

According to the President’s Office, the new offices will be officially known in English as the “Addu Atoll Addu Meedhoo Council Office” and the “Addu Atoll Addu Hulhudhoo Council Office.” Reflecting these changes, no elections were held for the atoll councils or the Hirimaradhoo Council during the most recent local government polls.
