The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness, Abdulla Rafiu, has officially inaugurated the newly developed futsal field in R. Maakurathu. The facility marks a significant addition to the island’s sports infrastructure, aimed at fostering athletic talent among the local youth.

The project was contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and funded through the state budget. Physical works for the futsal field were completed in early May. This development is part of the government’s broader initiative to provide modern sporting environments across the administrative atolls.

The establishment of this futsal field follows a commitment made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during his visit to Maakurathu last year. Following requests from the island’s residents, the administration prioritized the project, ensuring its completion in a timely manner to serve the community’s needs.
