The Maldives Police Service has apprehended a 44-year-old man in connection with the theft of a box containing over MVR 300,000, which was reported missing from a jetty in Malé earlier this week.

According to official reports, the theft occurred on August 2, 2026, shortly after the box was unloaded from a speedboat at the jetty near the Atolls Parking Zone on Boduthakurufaanu Magu. The victim reported that the container held more than MVR 300,000 in cash.

Following a prompt investigation that utilized CCTV footage from the surrounding area, authorities identified the suspect as Ali Nazim, a native of Sevenstar in L. Mundoo. He was arrested under a court warrant on August 4, 2026.

Upon searching the suspect, police recovered MVR 248,500 in cash and a mobile phone valued at approximately MVR 7,000, which is believed to have been purchased using the stolen funds. The suspect has been presented to the court, where he was remanded in custody for 15 days as the investigation continues.
