A 23-year-old man has been remanded in custody after allegedly hitting a police officer with his motorcycle and attempting to flee the scene in Malé City. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon at the intersection of Majeedhee Magu and Chaandhanee Magu while the officer was performing traffic management duties.

The suspect has been identified by the Maldives Police Service as Saain Abdul Gayyoom, a resident of Faresmaathoda in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. Following his arrest, he was produced before the Criminal Court today, where a judge ordered him to be held in remand for 15 days to facilitate further investigation into the matter.

Authorities reported that the collision took place at approximately 17:34. While the duty officer sustained various injuries during the encounter, police confirmed that he did not suffer any major trauma. The motorcycle involved in the incident has since been seized and towed by the police as part of the ongoing probe.
