The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has successfully completed 65 percent of the land reclamation project in L. Maavah. This major infrastructure initiative is designed to address the persistent land shortage and housing challenges faced by the island’s residents.

Commissioned by the Ministry of Housing, Land and Urban Development, the project carries a total investment value of MVR 61.46 million. Under the scope of the work, MTCC is reclaiming 15 hectares of land from the island’s lagoon. The company has reported that dredging and reclamation operations are currently proceeding at a rapid pace.

The government anticipates that the completion of this project will provide a long-term solution for families struggling with housing difficulties. In addition to the reclamation works, MTCC is also currently engaged in the development of a Fitness and Recreation Center on the island, aimed at promoting community health and well-being.
