Legendary Indian playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away today at the age of 92. She had been receiving treatment at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital prior to her passing.

According to medical reports cited by Indian media, the veteran artist succumbed to multi-organ failure. A team of doctors had been monitoring her condition after it deteriorated significantly in recent days.

Bhosle’s illustrious career in Bollywood began in the 1950s. Over seven decades, she established herself as one of the most prolific singers in history, recording approximately 12,500 songs across various genres and languages.

In recognition of her immense contribution to the arts, the Indian government honored her with the Padma Vibhushan, the nation’s second-highest civilian award. Her death marks the end of an era for the global music industry and the millions of fans she inspired.
