Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mohamed Ameen, has announced that the government’s newly introduced eco-friendly taxi service is scheduled to commence operations in Addu City within the current year. The initiative aims to address the significant transportation challenges faced by the residents of the southern hub.

Speaking at a special ceremony held for the launch of the Malé taxi service, Minister Ameen noted that securing reliable transportation has been a major concern for the large population of Addu City. He stated that, under the guidance of the President, practical work is already underway to establish a service in Addu that meets the same standards as the capital.

The state-led project will utilize 100% environment-friendly vehicles. The service will offer three different car sizes and operate 24 hours a day, providing a continuous and sustainable transport solution. The government describes this move as a revolutionary step in modernizing the Maldives’ national transport network.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the implementation of this new system will significantly strengthen the public transport infrastructure in Addu City, ensuring greater convenience and long-term benefits for the community.
