Government Expenditure Reduced by 23 Percent
The state has spent a total of MVR 20.6 billion from its budget by the end of last week, marking an 8.7 percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
Recurrent expenditure has decreased by 5.3 percent, while capital expenditure has seen a significant reduction of 72.1 percent. The government has maintained lower spending levels throughout this year compared to the previous year.
Of the MVR 20.8 billion approved for administrative and operational expenses in the 2025 budget, MVR 8.2 billion has been spent so far. This represents a decrease of MVR 1.1 billion compared to the same period last year, when spending reached MVR 9.3 billion.
Administrative operational costs have decreased by 71.5 percent. Additionally, government travel expenses have declined by 17.2 percent compared to the previous year.
