A specialized team from the Ministry of Fisheries has arrived in F. Feeali to evaluate the extensive damage caused by a devastating fire last Thursday. The delegation met with the Feeali Island Council to discuss recovery efforts and immediate support for the local community.
The fire, which originated on a fuel transport vessel docked at the island’s harbor, quickly escalated out of control. It spread to a local ice plant and three nearby boats, resulting in total destruction. Ministry officials confirmed that two grouper fishing vessels and the ice plant are now beyond repair, while several other crafts sustained varying degrees of damage.
The Ministry stated that the government is actively working to provide swift solutions to mitigate the impact on the local fishing industry. Meanwhile, the Maldives Police Service has launched a formal investigation into the incident, as the exact cause of the blaze remains unknown.
