Ibrahim Falah, the Parliamentary Group Leader of the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC), has accused the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration of unfairly dismissing numerous employees during its time in office.

The remarks were made during a parliamentary debate regarding a resolution proposed by Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir. The resolution addressed the government’s current efforts to reduce state-owned enterprise (SOE) staff by 30%. Falah criticized the resolution, claiming it lacked evidence and failed to provide specific details regarding any individuals currently facing unfair termination.

Falah further stated that the PNC holds records of 421 individuals who were unjustly terminated between 2018 and 2023 under the MDP government, including 330 staff members from various SOEs. He argued that the current opposition is projecting its past actions onto the present administration.

Additionally, Falah referenced the first MDP administration under former President Mohamed Nasheed, alleging that islands and lagoons were distributed to party loyalists who lacked the financial capacity to utilize them. He concluded that the public is now well aware of the MDP’s historical conduct.
