A 30-year-old Bangladeshi national has been arrested and remanded in custody following a series of thefts from a local electronics outlet in the capital.

According to the remand order issued by the Criminal Court, the suspect, identified as MD Kofil Uddin, is accused of stealing from the Samsung Smart Plaza on multiple occasions. The court has ordered the suspect to be detained for a period of 15 days while the investigation proceeds.

During the remand hearing, Uddin reportedly declined to provide a statement or offer a defense regarding the allegations against him. While theft remains a frequent offense in the Maldives, authorities noted that arrests of foreign nationals for such crimes are relatively uncommon compared to cases involving locals.

The Maldives Police Service is continuing its investigation into the matter to determine the full extent of the stolen goods.
