The Gaafu Alif Gemanafushi Magistrate Court has issued a public announcement seeking information on a man who disappeared more than half a century ago. The inquiry aims to determine whether the individual is still alive to resolve a pending inheritance matter.
The court is looking for Hassan Mohamed, originally from Thandirathmaage in Gaafu Alif Diyadoo. According to official records, Hassan Mohamed went missing in 1973 when the vessel he was traveling on from Diyadoo to the capital, Malé, capsized at sea.
The Magistrate Court has requested that any person with knowledge of his status—whether he is alive or deceased—contact the court within 10 days of the announcement. This legal step is mandatory for the finalization of estate and property distribution among heirs.
Hassan’s home island, GA. Diyadoo, is no longer an inhabited island. The community was relocated to GA. Gemanafushi and other islands in the atoll during the early 2000s as part of the government’s consolidation efforts.
