A 38-year-old man, previously imprisoned for the sexual abuse of a minor, has been arrested and remanded in custody regarding a financial scam investigation.
The Maldives Criminal Court identified the suspect as Moosa Mohamed, a resident of M. Omega. According to the remand order issued by the court, the suspect will be held in detention for a period of 15 days as the investigation proceeds.
While the specific details of the alleged scam have not been fully disclosed by the authorities, the court noted that police presented preliminary evidence, including email correspondence between investigators and banking institutions. These records reportedly link the suspect to the fraudulent activities currently under investigation.
Moosa Mohamed has a significant criminal record. In 2014, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl at a local guesthouse. This latest arrest marks his return to the judicial system following the completion of his previous sentence.
